Set Yourself Free from Ill-fitting Bras: Learn How to Measure Your Bra Size

Lingerie is an extension of a woman’s body. But do you ever give it the attention it deserves? Well, the available stats show that majority of women are unsure of their bra size and hence often land up buying ill-fitted bras.

Even the best quality bras from top lingerie brands will fail to give you the needed grip, support, and comfort if you miss out on the correct bra measurement. A wrong-sized bra can spoil your look and also become the reason for pain and discomfort. Figuring out your correct bra size is the first step toward finding the perfect bra fitting and guess what. This is no rocket science.

What makes it more problematic?

If you think your bra size always remains the same, you’re highly mistaken. It tends to change with time due to weight gain/loss, pregnancy, hormonal changes, and so on. Moreover, bra size often varies with different lingerie brands; a C-cup at one store can easily be a D-Cup at another. Adding to the mess is the ability of some bra sizes to grow and shrink (especially in band size) over time with wear and wash.

Now you can’t rely on a guessing game for your bra size. Having a definite number and letter that perfectly fits your size is critical to get the confidence you need.

Easy Ways to Determine Your Bra Size

 Measure your band size

  • Keep the measuring tape around your ribcage, right underneath the band of your bra and then take the measurement. Make sure to pull the tape tight without making it uncomfortable.
  • Note down the measurement.
  • If you get an even number, consider that to be your band size.
  • If you get an odd number, round up or round down to the nearest even number based on your build. Round down if you’re softer around the band and round up if you’re leaner. You can then consider that as correct your band size.

Measure your cup size

  • Place the measuring tape around the fullest part of your bust. Make sure it’s not too tight or loose so that you’ve no twists or falls.
  • Note down the measurement.
  • Round off the number to the nearest whole number.

Derive the actual bust size for your bra fit

Deduct the band size taken earlier from the cup size.

  • For instance, if the band size is 34 inches and bust size is 37 inches, the difference between the two is 3. Now, 3 here represents the letter C. This means your bra size will be 34C. Similarly, if the difference is 1, the cup size will be A and if it’s 2 it will be B.

How to Confirm You Got the Right Fitting Bra?

This is simple, actually. You know you have picked the right bra size for yourself when:

  • Your bra straps don’t dig in or slip off.
  • Your cups cover your busts from all sides and there is no spillage.
  • The band is flat all the way around and fits you properly when secured on the last hook. With regular wear and wash, the fit will get looser so you can move to the second hook and then to the tightest hook to get a better fit.
  • The wires at the centre front – also called the gore, rest flat against your body. Not standing away and gaping.
  • The wire at the side towards the underarm is behind your breast tissue and not resting on your boobs.

Say goodbye to ill-fitting bras and hassles of choosing between different weird bra fits. Next time, when buying your bra online, the above tips will surely help you pick the perfect size.
